WAYNESBORO, Ga. () Junk in the Trunk is a antique mall, and inside you’ll find items from several different vendors.

For this episode of “Your Hometown Road Trip” the crew stopped in to speak with owner Janice Schmidt about her love of antiques, and what it’s been like running her business in Waynesboro.

What is Junk in the Trunk?

“It’s an antique mall, it’s a place where people come and shop, and have fun, this is one of life’s pleasures.”

Have you always been interested in antiques and what got you in to it?

“My grandfather introduced me to the life that we call junking, and I went to auctions, and yard sales, and all kinds of places with my grandparents, and I loved it. When you look at antiques they bring back memories of you childhood and better times.”

What’s the reaction of people when they come in here and see all of this stuff that you have?

“They can’t believe the building is this big or that we have this many things in here, and everyone tells me how nice it is and how much they enjoyed it. Sometimes they tell me what they’re looking for, and we hunt it for them.”They can’t believe the building is this big or that we have this many things in here, and everyone tells me how nice it is and how much they enjoyed it. Sometimes they tell me what they’re looking for, and we hunt it for them.”

Is this all your stuff?

“No, I have 7 vendors and my daughters in business with me, so part of it is hers.”

How much has Waynesboro supported you since you’ve been here?

“When we were remodeling we had neighbors on either side that opened their business doors to let us run extension cords, use their restrooms. Whatever we needed and then the business owners got together make this a great place to come. We are always thinking outside the box to make this a place people want to visit. Everybody supports Waynesboro. We’re just so grateful.”
