ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Ashley Brittany Dames, 33, was arrested early this morning and charged with burglary, drug possession, and resisting arrest after she allegedly fled a vehicle that was pulled over by a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper.
A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper saw a pickup truck run a red light on SR 26 near NW 98th Street and attempt a u-turn, reportedly almost crashing into a vehicle traveling westbound on SR 26. The trooper turned on his lights to perform a traffic stop, but the truck allegedly did not stop and then accelerated and turned north on NW 107th Terrace. The truck reportedly spun out in a driveway on NW 107th Terrace, and the two occupants allegedly ran onto private property. The trooper requested backup from Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.
Two Sheriff’s deputies assisted the trooper in clearing the vehicle for other occupants, then a K-9 began tracking the suspects. The trooper reported seeing “numerous” clothing items along the path, then, following the K-9, found a purse on the ground that had Dames’s driver’s license inside.
After the K-9 handler announced that a K-9 was tracking, the K-9 led deputies to a wood and tarp structure at the back of the private property and found Dames; the K-9 reportedly bit and secured her on her bicep, and Dames was treated for the bite at the scene by Alachua County Fire Rescue and then transported to an emergency room for further evaluation.
The trooper reported that he found a prescription bottle with a white powdery substance in the immediate area where Dames was found.
Post Miranda, Dames reportedly said she was the passenger in the vehicle and only knows the driver by his street name; the driver was not apprehended. She reportedly denied knowledge of the white powder but admitted that she smokes MDMA; the substance tested positive for cocaine and MDMA.
Dames has been charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug equipment, and resisting arrest without violence. She has five felony convictions and was sentenced to community control in June of 2022 on drug charges. She also had an outstanding warrant for violating the terms of her probation by not reporting to her probation officer as directed and not confining herself to her home as directed. The warrant specifies that she be held without bond.
