AUGUSTA, Ga () – A local non-profit teaming up with local businesses to raise money for cancer research.

Happy2Help beer is benefiting the non-profit Paceline in partnership with the Savannah River Brewing Co. with a beer that launched Saturday.

Paceline is a peer-to-peer fundraiser that raises money for cancer research.

Every year they host a community fundraising event called PaceDay where participants will run, walk or ride.

“It’s about wellness, it’s about healing, it’s also meant to mimic and imitate something difficult like getting cancer treatments like infusions. Sometimes the rides or the walks are kind of long so the exercise and the prep for that is very similar to the prevention that you go through in trying to treat and prevent cancer,” said Ian Mercier, President and Ceo of the Medical College of Georgia Foundation.

The idea for these companies to partner together came from 3 childhood friends. Adam Fulmer, the Head Brewer at Savannah River Brewing Co., Leonard “Porkchop” Zimmerman, founder of Happy, and Ian Mercier the President and Ceo of the Medical College of Georgia Foundation.

“I’ll take credit for it being my idea, but I brought absolutely nothing else to the process, Leonard was kind enough to provide the branding which everyone is very familiar with, Happy is what we want people to be when their overcoming cancer,” Mercier said.

Mercier tells me not only is the beer good, but seeing everyone come together for one mission is even better.

“Adam Fulmer has created this incredible beer that’s strawberry blonde sort of summery, fruity, it tastes wonderful and it’s delicious and the fact that we’re all here celebrating this at the same time and raising funds for cancer through Paceline, you can’t do anything any better than that,” Mercier said.

All proceeds from purchasing the beer will go directly to Paceline.

Happy2Help beer will be available at major retailers, grocers and package stores in the CSRA while supplies last.
