WAUCHULA, Fla. (WFLA) — Wauchula police are searching for a man accused of hopping over a fence at an elementary school while class was in session on Thursday.
A “suspicious person” described as a black male “climbed the rear fence and began walking around the exterior of (Wauchula Elementary School), checking classroom doors while school was in session and children were present,” the Wauchula Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Police said the man then jumped back over the fence and left the area. They were notified of the incident at around 3 p.m.
“It is important to note that the safety measures and security protocols that Hardee County School District employees train on and practice regularly were effective,” the Facebook post said. “These procedures prevented the subject from gaining access to students or classrooms, and all children remained safe throughout the incident.”
Anyone who recognizes the man, or has information about his whereabouts, is asked to call the Wauchula Police Department at (863) 773-3265. To remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a reward, tips can also be submitted to Heartland Crime Stoppers online at heartland.crimestoppersweb.com or by calling 1 (888) 400-8477.
