STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — Authorities in Statesboro are seeking assistance from the community to locate a suspect linked to a shooting incident originating from Screven County.

Officers from the Statesboro Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at 200 Lanier Drive around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, they found 30-year-old Deontre Mincey dead, having succumbed to a gunshot wound.

Another man, who sustained an injury to his arm, was also involved in the situation. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover, as the injury was not life-threatening.

Following the event, police reviewed security footage, noting the presence of several witnesses in the vicinity during the shooting. However, in a statement released on Sunday, officials described the investigation as “complicated,” largely due to the absence of witnesses at the scene who could help identify the victims.

Officials announced Sunday that detectives have identified Khalir Nickens, 21, from Sylvania, as a suspect.

Police have issued warrants for his arrest on charges of felony murder, as well as several other associated felonies.

Nickens should be considered armed and dangerous, officials said.
