NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. ()- Friday morning, members of the community and North Augusta High School students and staff sent the girl’s and boy’s basketball teams off to state finals.
It’s the Lady Jackets’ 6th appearance at state in the last 8 years and the FIRST time the boy’s team has ever made it to state.
It’s also the first time in the school’s history that both the girl’s and boy’s team in the same sport has made it to state in the same year.
Senior forward, DaRon Dunbar, has played for the boys varsity basketball team all four years of high school. He said he is proud to be a part of this group of players.
“It feels great. We worked hard all season just for this moment. Like all the times we worked out together, out of school and in school. It’s just really been an accomplishment for this group. Proud of that,” he said.
Dunbar added that winning state would just be icing on the cake of a great season.
“We’re feeling really great about it. Feel like we’re going to have a great match up on Lancaster. They have really good players, but we have really good players as well. So I feel like we’re going to be evenly matched up the game.”
Dunbar explained that win or lose, he is expecting to shed some tears over his last high school basketball game. He plans to attend Augusta University to major in sports management and play for the AU Jags basketball team.
Both games are happening at the Florence Center Arena in Florence, SC.
The Lady Jackets tip off at 2 p.m. and the Yellow Jackets go after their first state win starting at 4 p.m.
