GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Terrell Durr, 27, and Daniel Lawayne Jones, 33, were arrested yesterday morning after an officer investigating the theft of a car allegedly found them sitting in the car.
At about 8:30 a.m. on March 21, the car’s owner reported that her credit card and car key had been stolen from inside her car, which had been parked overnight at Arbor Apartments. She also reported that her credit card had been used at the Phoenix Super Food Store that morning. The next morning (March 22) at 6:30 a.m., she reported that her car had been stolen overnight.
At about 8:45 a.m. on March 22, a Gainesville Police Department officer saw the car parked at Pavilion Apartments and detained Durr, who was reportedly in the driver’s seat. The car key was reportedly found near Durr inside the car.
Post Miranda, Durr reportedly said he had gotten the car from a friend that morning and had driven it to its current location. He also reportedly admitted that he had used the victim’s credit card the previous day. He allegedly identified himself as Dekoven Q. Barber, which was later determined to be a false name.

Jones was reportedly sitting in the right rear passenger seat, and officers ordered him to get out of the car and get on the ground. After officers handcuffed him and placed him in a patrol vehicle, they found a .380 handgun in front of the right rear passenger tire, next to Jones; officers reported that no handgun had been there when they approached the car.
Post Miranda, Jones reportedly admitted the gun was in his pocket when officers contacted him.
Durr has been charged with grand theft of a vehicle and providing false identification information to an officer. He has six local felony convictions and nine misdemeanor convictions, none violent. His bail information has not been posted.
Jones has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has six felony convictions and 15 misdemeanor convictions, none violent; most are for drugs, burglary, or theft. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $15,000.
