Police Arrest Marion Gang Member After Discovering Over Half a Pound of Meth in Van, Sheriff’s Office Reports

MARION. Va. (WJHL) — The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrested an alleged member of the Bloods street gang on Thursday after a month-long investigation.

According to a social media post, an investigation revealed that Donte Durell McRay, of 124 Remington Lane in Marion, had been traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, to pick up narcotics and transport them back to Smyth County for resale. It was also determined that McRay was a member of the Bloods street gang, with ties also in South Carolina.

The SCSO searched McRay’s 2009 white Dodge Caravan, which resulted in finding 246 grams of methamphetamine (just over half a pound).

McRay was charged with the following, the SCSO said:

He is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon, without bond, according to the SCSO.
