NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. () – The North Augusta Department of Safety has released new information on the whereabouts of Susan Rhodes.

NAPS said they were notified that the missing woman was back at home after a phone call from her roommate on August 5th.

Law enforcement had to get into the house through the window to speak with Rhodes, due to all doors being locked.

According to reports, Rhodes told law enforcement that after her crash on June 11th, she walked into the woods, and ended up in a creek that turned into a river. She said that the water was moving so fast that her shoes and pants were swept off her body and she held on to tree roots to keep from drowning.

Rhodes reportedly made it back to the roadway where an unknown elderly couple picked her up and took her to their place, where she stayed. She said she was fed bread and water by the couple. She said she noticed she was in the Thomson area, near Highway 278. She also said another man in a black truck brought her back home.

She told police she thought she had a stroke and didn’t remember much.

Police determined on August 5th that Susan Rhodes fled the scene to avoid prosecution from the June crash. Reports say an empty beer can was found in the car Rhodes was driving.

Warrants have been issued for Hit and Run, Unattended Vehicle with Property Damage.

After police spoke with Rhodes on August 5th, EMS did take her to the hospital doe an evaluation. During transport her condition was upgraded to emergent.

This case continues to be an active investigation and is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division.
