Savannah opens cooling centers due to high heat index

SAVANNAH. Ga. () — The City of Savannah and partners are making facilities available to help people stay cool as the heat index climbs, potentially hitting 109 degrees.

A heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to take precaution by hydrating and avoiding strenuous activities outside if possible.
