Semitruck collides with tree, ignites fire on I-95 in Brevard County causing lane closures

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A semitruck Tuesday morning lost control on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, striking a tree off the road and catching fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened around 6:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 202 in Cocoa.

According to troopers, the driver, a 56-year-old Georgia man, was traveling in the outside lane when the semitruck went off the road and hit the tree.

The man and his passenger, a 46-year-old man, were both able to escape the vehicle. The two were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of 9:45 a.m., the FHP said fire crews are trying to extinguish the fire.

The center and outside southbound lanes are closed and the inside lane is open for traffic.

An investigation is ongoing.
