BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Bristol, Tennessee City Council filled the vacancy created by the resignation of Mark Hutton.

Tuesday night, council members selected Sullivan County Commissioner Matt Slagle to fill the empty seat.

Slage said he is looking forward to serving the city.

“First thing we’re going to do is we’re going to take a look at this tax rate here in the city,” Slagle said. “And if there’s anything we can do with that quickly, we’re going to do it. As most of the city residents know, they receive tax notices from the county. They’ll receive tax notices from the city. And, all of the residents here took a heavy hit for the property tax increases. So we’ve got to see what we can do here at the city to help, you know, alleviate some of that pain from those increase in taxes.

Slagle will serve until the city’s next regular election in November 2026.
