SSU Coach Expresses Discontent with Defense in Season Opener Loss

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah State football team looks to rebound in Week 2 after a season-opening loss at home on Aug. 30.

The Tigers came out flat losing to Edward Waters, 41-14. Head coach Aaron Kelton said we just did not play well.

He also said Christian Burks will remain the starting quarterback and Fabion Walker will come in as relief, if needed.

However, the area of concern for the Tigers might be on the other side of the football. The tigers only recorded one tackle for loss the entire game.

Kelton says that will be key in week two.

“The defensive line is the part of our team that we felt and feel the strongest about,” Kelton said. “We’ve got to do a better job there. I’ve got to do a better job calling it and getting them ready and making sure that there are plays that they can make.”

Savannah State seeks its first win of the season on Sept. 6 at home against Shorter University. The kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
