Stay Dry and Cozy: Storm Team 3’s Essential Guide to This Week’s Cool and Rainy Weather

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Get ready for a shift in the weather as rain is set to begin tonight, ushering in a cooler week ahead.

Sunday featured predominantly overcast skies with occasional breezy spells. As the night progresses, rain will intermittently sweep through the area, heralding the approach of a storm system. Expect temperatures to dip only to the upper 50s to lower 60s, accompanied by northeast winds blowing at 5-15 mph.

On Monday, anticipate periods of showers with a few storms mixed in, with rain chances heightening before dawn. The most significant weather activity will occur as a cluster of showers and embedded storms traverses the region. A developing low-pressure area will intensify both the likelihood and the intensity of rainfall, while maintaining breezy conditions.

While some areas might experience localized street flooding due to heavy rain, the combination of parched ground and moderate rainfall rates should mitigate the risk of widespread flooding. Although rain chances diminish somewhat in the evening, scattered showers will persist past sunset.

From Tuesday to Thursday, expect drier and cooler conditions, with a 20% chance of rain and temperatures peaking in the 60s. By Thursday, a robust cold front will sweep through the Southeast, bringing clear skies and a chill to conclude the week. Halloween temperatures will be more than 10 degrees below the norm!

In the tropics, Hurricane Melissa remains a powerful storm. As of 5 p.m., the system is a Category 4 hurricane with 145 mph maximum sustained winds. Jamaica is in its crosshairs with a potentially devastating impact ahead. Rainfall totals in excess of 30 inches, storm surge greater than ten feet and destructive winds from the core of the storm will bring crippling damage to some.

Melissa will track northeast away from Jamaica and impact eastern Cuba along with brushing Hispaniola. Southeastern portions of The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos will also be impacted. The steering flow eventually takes the system out to sea, bringing potential impacts to Bermuda.

There are no tropical threats to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.
