GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — Gibson City’s consolidated election is next week. Current Mayor Dan Dickey is running against alderwoman Sarah Sarantakos.

She’s been in that position for less than two years but has worked with local government for a decade and has also worked with previous mayors. Sarantakos is currently working on brining a second pool to the city.

On the other hand, Dickey said a big accomplishment during his time is an ongoing sewer and water project after the historic flooding in 2021.

“I’m looking forward to moving Gibson City forward,” Dickey said. “I mean, I’m just looking to the future. I haven’t really changed anything. I think it’s important that you listen to the citizens, the businesses.”

Dickey has been the mayor of Gibson City for 20 years.

“He’s had 20 years to do all those things he just talked about in that economic development booklet,” Sarantakos said. “And he’s not a bad person, I’m just saying he’s had his time, he’s had his moment in the sun. I believe that it is time to bring a new breath of fresh air.”

Both emphasized wanting a better community for the city. Sarantakos said she wants to bring in a truck stop to generate money for other projects, and Dickey said his goal this year is to add more homes for people by creating incentives to get people into the area.
