Trump says Americans will receive $2K each from tariff push

(The Hill) — On Sunday, President Trump announced that his administration plans to distribute a minimum of $2,000 to each American, funded through tariff revenues.

“A dividend of at least $2,000 per person (excluding high-income individuals!) will be distributed to everyone,” the president declared on his Truth Social platform, emphasizing that opponents of the tariffs are “FOOLS!”

This initiative would likely require Congressional approval. Earlier this summer, Republican Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri put forward a bill proposing $600 in tariff rebates for most Americans, including their dependent children.

“My legislation aims to ensure that the wealth generated by Trump’s tariffs is shared with the hard-working citizens of our nation,” Hawley stated at the time.
