Winn-Dixie Announces Closure of Select Grocery Locations in Georgia and Alabama

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WRBL) — Southeastern Grocers (SEG), the parent company behind the well-known Winn-Dixie grocery stores, has revealed plans to shutter several of its locations across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana by the close of 2025.

This decision comes as SEG embarks on a strategic realignment, focusing on “transitioning ownership of most of its locations outside of Florida,” according to the company.

Anthony Hucker, Chairman and CEO of SEG, expressed the company’s continued dedication to its Florida roots, saying, “For a century, Winn-Dixie has proudly called Florida home. As we step into our next century as The Winn-Dixie Company – a brand-new 100-year-old company – we are accelerating growth in areas where our ties are strongest, while remaining committed to our mission of nourishing and enhancing the communities, families, and neighbors who have supported us for generations.”

SEG’s announcement included details of agreements or plans in progress with several other grocery chains concerning 32 Winn-Dixie locations and eight Harveys Supermarkets situated in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

In South Georgia, stores in cities such as Brunswick, Folkston, Lake Park, St. Simons Island, and Valdosta will continue operations and are expected to undergo planned renovations. Additionally, the company plans to expand its liquor store offerings and introduce new third-party delivery and return kiosks as part of its innovative initiatives.
