Spoiler Alert: Details from “Chicago Med” Season 11, Episode 7 – “Double Down” are discussed below.

Devotees of “Chicago Med” have been eagerly following the on-again, off-again dynamic between Hannah Asher, portrayed by Jessy Schram, and Dean Archer, played by Steven Weber. Their relationship has been complicated by Hannah’s involvement with Mitch Ripley, played by Luke Mitchell. However, the plot thickened with Hannah’s unexpected pregnancy after a one-night liaison with Dean, sparking new hopes for their future together. Despite this development, tensions have arisen over their differing views on the child, and fans are now troubled by Dean’s seemingly flirtatious interactions with a new character, Dr. Jennifer Kingston, played by Merrin Dungey, particularly during an operating room scene set to mood music.

The entangled relationships among Hannah, Dean, and potentially Kingston are causing quite a stir among the show’s fanbase. “They are the slowest burn ever,” commented Reddit user u/London50th, reflecting the growing impatience. Another fan, u/ProofEmu2253, expressed frustration over Dean’s potential new romance, lamenting, “I cannot take another Dean in a boring relationship with an age-appropriate woman … This can’t be happening!! Not again!!” The introduction of Kingston is viewed by some viewers as a narrative tool designed to ultimately unite Dean and Hannah. Nevertheless, there remains hope among fans that a particular stumbling block could prevent any real connection between Dean and Kingston.

There is a prevailing belief among fans that the writers of “Chicago Med” intend for Dean and Hannah to end up together, and there is a compelling reason for this expectation. During a conversation between Dean and Kingston, she reveals her aversion to children, which could be a significant obstacle. While Dean has an adult son, the fact that he and Hannah are now expecting might make Kingston’s stance a dealbreaker.

This revelation fuels speculation that Kingston’s role might simply serve as an impediment to the long-awaited union of Dean and Hannah. “I saw the wheels moving in Hannah’s head during the episode regarding family and telling the ones you love how you feel. I think if she told Dean she wanted them to be a family he would jump at it,” observed u/London50th. Fans remain optimistic that Hannah and Dean’s story will culminate in a happily ever after.

There’s one possible deal breaker in the Kingston-Archer relationship

Fans are still fairly convinced that keeping Dean and Hannah together is likely the endgame for “Chicago Med” writers — and there’s a good reason for that. During their conversation, Kingston admits that she doesn’t like kids. That, obviously, might be a huge dealbreaker: while Dean already has an adult son, he and Hannah are also now expecting.

That’s just one reason the audience is holding out hope that Kingston is simply a roadblock to Dean and Hannah’s happily ever after. “I saw the wheels moving in Hannah’s head during the episode regarding family and telling the ones you love how you feel. I think if she told Dean she wanted them to be a family he would jump at it,” u/London50th notes.

With Dean being very committed to making sure his and Hannah’s baby, which may have health complications, comes into the world safe and sound, is it any wonder that fans are annoyed by his behavior and the show’s choices — and continue to wish for a brighter tomorrow for them both? Dean’s definitely come a long way from being nearly killed off the show early in his run, but he’s still got some growing to do.
