Season 6 starts on shaky ground for Tara and Jax. Because of the club, Tara loses the use of her hands while becoming implicated as an accessory to murder. This turn of events further motivates Tara to get her children out of Charming. She had Jax previously agreed to leave the outlaw life behind, but he seems more entrenched in blood than ever before. Maggie Siff would be the first one to tell you that changing her character’s appearance symbolized the dark turn of Tara’s character.
“I had been wanting to cut my hair for a long time. At the end of last season, I talked to Kurt about it and he was like, ‘Yes, let’s do it,’ once we knew that she was going to prison,” Siff confessed to Collider in 2013. Tara’s striking hairstyle changed not just because she was in jail, but because it represents a season full of torment — one that ends in her devastating death. Siff went on to say: “The thing that I ended up feeling, before I cut my hair, was that it would be a really good thing for the character and for the season because it’s tougher. There’s something about losing the hair that’s a little bit like losing the part of her that is submissive to Jax and to the club. Losing that feminine edge is a really good thing, for the season and for the character.”
