While we’re sure Harrison Ford has had extensive training riding horses, he can’t fault the “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” stunt crew for wanting to ensure his safety during the scene. Not only was Ford pushing 80 during filming, but he also has a history of injuring himself on set, causing productions to shut down completely.
During a Reddit AMA, Ford revealed that he tore his ACL while filming the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” scene where Indy is fighting a German mechanic twice his size as a plane circles around them. Decades later, a similar accident occurred on the set of “The Force Awakens,” when the hatch of the Millennium Falcon swung down, breaking Ford’s leg.
He even got injured while filming “The Dial of Destiny,” he revealed during his Esquire interview. While demonstrating how he would punch actor Mads Mikkelsen, he had to adjust midway to avoid hitting someone, tearing a muscle in his right shoulder in the process. Production shut down for two weeks afterward, with Ford sitting out another six. When asked about having a reputation for doing his own stunts, Ford replied, “Yeah, well, I’m also known for shutting movies down because I get hurt, which is not something you want to be known for. But hey, s**t happens.”
