Rapper BJ “Baby” James, of Detroit, died suddenly of heart failure, and the hip-hop community is in mourning. Baby James, a pivotal player in the thriving Detroit rap scene, has left a lasting legacy in the business. In Detroit rap history, Baby BJ James was more than just a rapper he was a revered character. James, a Michigan native, was well-known for his lyrical abilities and was a key player in the well-known rap group Streets R Us. Along with fellow Streets R Us members, he and Freeky Skywalker produced their debut mixtape, “Call It What You Want,” in 2013. The album includes collaborations with well-known musicians such as Helluva, Young Calicoe, Most Wanted, Tony Fenkell, and Pook Bandz.

In the summer of 2014, Baby James and Freeky Skywalker continued their musical journey with the release of their second mixtape, “Ball In Heaven Rokey.” Remarkably, James actively participated in the endeavour to make the Streets R Us back repertoire available on streaming services, to conserve and disseminate their musical heritage to a wider viewership. Regretfully, BJ “Baby” James passed away recently after being admitted to the hospital with heart failure. He fought valiantly and bravely, but he was overcome by his health issues.

As word of his hospitalisation spread, supporters gathered around him, providing encouragement and hope for a speedy recovery.
