It stands to reason that if we are to have a federal department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and an American Public Housing Authority, whose job it is to provide low-income Americans with cheap housing, that this service should be limited to American citizens. The taxpayers are on the hook for the cost, after all. This is paid for by Americans. It should be limited to Americans.
This hasn’t been the practice in the past, more notably not during the tenure of “Autopen Joe” Biden. But the times, they are a’changing. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is ordering a review to confirm the legal presence of all residents, and threatening to cut funding to these projects if they do not comply with federal guidelines: Specifically, no illegal aliens in taxpayer-subsidized housing.
The Trump administration has ordered a nationwide review of public housing in an effort to root out residents who are in the country illegally, according to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner announced Friday.
Turner wrote that each Public Housing Authority has 30 days to conduct an audit to ensure that the existing orders are enforced. The department is asking for information about the public housing units, as well as verifiable citizenship or “eligible immigration status.”
“No longer will illegal aliens be able to leave citizenship boxes blank or take advantage of HUD-funded housing, riding the coattails of hardworking American citizens,” Turner wrote.
As taxpaying citizens, we should all be chiming in with one comment: “It’s about time.” The Trump administration has been active from the outset in finding and eliminating areas in which people in the country illegally can be a drain on the taxpayers, so this is another move among many.
