On Thursday’s episode of “The Briefing” on MSNBC, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker expressed his stance that ICE agents should face charges if they violate local and state laws.
During the program, host Jen Psaki questioned Pritzker about his recent comments on potentially prosecuting ICE agents who overstep legal boundaries. She asked, “What can you tell us about that? What might that entail?”
Pritzker replied, “We are uncertain if accountability will be enforced at the federal level, so we are considering all possible actions at the local level. This includes working with county state’s attorneys and attorneys general to address violations of Illinois and local laws. For instance, if agents are driving through an area and respond to a provocation by throwing a tear gas canister from their vehicle at a bystander, that clearly violates Illinois law. The question is whether we can hold these agents accountable for such actions. If a police officer or an ordinary citizen engaged in similar conduct, they would face consequences. Therefore, it stands to reason that ICE agents should also be accountable for breaking local and state laws.”
