Drivers face long delays on their morning commute following an overnight horror crash between a car and a lorry that has left a man fighting for his life.
A motorist smashed his car into a lorry on the M25 near Heathrow Airport just before midnight, with lanes re-opening more than nine hours later.
The driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The ‘serious collision’ resulted in a clockwise closure between J14 and J16 this morning, leaving commuters facing delays on several major roads.
Just after 9am, National Highways confirmed that all lanes had re-opened clockwise between J14 and 15, with delays of 30 minutes above usual journey times and three miles of congestion.

There was heavy congestion approaching J14 on the M25 where the closure began. Roads in the area are much busier than usual. An investigation into the crash is under way, but officials expect the closure to be ‘protracted and in place for a considerable time today’
Authorities are encouraging drivers to avoid the area, reroute their morning commute and allow extra travel time.
Officers responded to the reports of the collision at 11.55pm yesterday, along with the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.
Photographs from the crash site show severe damage to the front of the car.
Metropolitan Police and National Highways traffic officers have been at the scene and road closures remain in place while the investigation is carried out.
Traffic tailbacks approaching the J14 have stretched as far as three miles, but lanes have now reopened following earlier closures. Roads in the area are much busier than usual.
Officials expect the motorway closure to be ‘protracted and in place for a considerable time today.’
Traffic reports indicate that motorists are facing long queues from J13 at Staines. There are also delays on the nearby A30, A308, A4 and M4 Heathrow Spur.
