Daily Beast Makes 'In-Kind Contribution' to DeSantis With 'Walmart Melania' Attack on Casey DeSantis

As it turns out, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is not the only DeSantis who has a penchant for triggering the media.

His wife Casey DeSantis does as well, as was confirmed in May when Politico ran a hilarious article on the Sunshine State’s First Lady which heavily relied on quotes from former Florida Republicans turned unhinged Democrats as well as former Trump adviser Roger Stone to inform voters that the 2024 presidential candidate relies too much on his “blindly ambitious” and “paranoid” wife for advice and not GOP consultants and strategists — as if that’s a bad thing or something.

The latest media hit piece, however, makes that one seem like child’s play. In it, Daily Beast executive editor Katie Baker reveals her distaste for Mrs. DeSantis by first pointing to the “ghastly” leather jacket she wore during a recent Iowa campaign stop, a jacket that featured a quote Gov. DeSantis uses often in speeches:

“Florida: Where woke goes to die.”

Before we get a look at Baker’s story, check out a video clip of the DeSantis family together in Iowa, with Casey DeSantis sporting what (IMO) is a pretty cool jacket:

Baker’s headline sets the tone for the piece. In it, she referred to Casey DeSantis as the “Walmart Melania,” a term which is currently trending on Twitter thanks mostly to critics of what Baker wrote:

The First Lady of Florida showed up on the campaign trail in Iowa this weekend wearing a ghastly black leather jacket—American flag on front, an alligator and the silhouette of her state on the back, with the sneering words, “Where Woke Goes to Die”—that brought to mind nothing so much as the racks of a Red State big-bin store where it would be retailing for $24.99.

To be fair, Casey DeSantis wore the bomber to a charity biker rally and I’m sure the campaign intended it to be a viral moment, like Melania Trump’s infamous “I Really Don’t Care” coat that the former First Lady donned to check out the border crisis.

[…]

By contrast, Casey DeSantis’ coat is just like her husband Ron DeSantis’ campaign: Crude. Grasping. Saying the ugly part out loud. Whereas Trump would wink-wink at the fascists—who can forget his dog whistle to the “very fine people on both sides” at Charlottesville—DeSantis wants to peel off Trump’s base by being even more explicit about who he intends to target. You can see it right there on his wife’s jacket: DeSantis’ Florida is where the woke go to die—and a lot of other people die as well.

RealClearNews reporter Philip Wegmann described the piece as an “early in-kind contribution” to the DeSantis campaign.

For starters, Melania Trump did not wear that coat to the border, as RedState previously reported. Secondly, we all know at this point that the “very fine people” quote from then-President Trump is again deliberately and dishonestly used out of context as most in the media and on the left (including Joe Biden) have done over the years. And lastly, Florida’s coronavirus numbers were actually some of the best in the country, as even some of his critics have reluctantly acknowledged.

Later in the Daily Beast piece, we learned from Baker that “Melania Trump nor Casey DeSantis could ever embody the class and effortless elegance of Michelle Obama or Dr. Jill Biden.”

To that I say “thank God,” because I sure as hell don’t want any more First Ladies whose dislike of America oozes from every pore or who designate themselves as de facto POTUS because their husbands need hourly reminders of where to go and what to say and how to act — not to mention the fact that we certainly don’t need another First Lady who views minority groups as pieces of food.

Further, if Katie Baker was trying to show how elitist and out of touch the mainstream media is by referring to Casey DeSantis as “Walmart Melania” – as though there was something wrong with shopping at Walmart, what would she be doing differently here?

I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised here considering it was the Daily Beast who brought us the breaking news about how Ron DeSantis sometimes eat pudding with three fingers, but this falsehood-filled piece still deserves to be called out nevertheless.

Last but not least, who wears leather jackets the best? Casey DeSantis or Katie Baker?

I’ll leave that up to readers to discuss.
