David Koch was brutally sledged by an ‘anti-vaxxer’ who yelled at him from across the street after he announced he was resigning from Sunrise.
The television personality said while he’d received countless well wishes after announcing he’d be walking away from the breakfast show after 21 years, not everyone was sad to see him go.
‘Thank you to everyone who’s been so lovely,’ he said on Tuesday.
‘Unbelievable messages, a wonderful classy one from Karl Stefanovic, it was so nice, I really adored that one, but so many great messages.
‘The coverage in the Daily Mail was berserk — even a story on ”Kochie’s hot son hidden away in the family business”.’
But as Koch and his wife Libby were heading out to lunch on Monday after the announcement, a heckler accosted him from the other side of the road.
‘He goes, “I’m glad you’re resigning, you’re just a paid mouthpiece for big pharma,”‘ he said as his co-hosts burst into laughter.

‘An anti-vaxxer. He was really mean, he started yelling at me across the road and Lib’s going, “What the hell?”‘
Co-host Natalie Barr said in between laughs: ‘We take the good with the bad, and we know that.’
Upon announcing his resignation, Koch said he’d loved every single minute of his time over the past two decades.

‘I started here before Facebook, before Instagram, before Twitter and iPhones. That’s how old I am,’ he continued.
‘I’ve been privileged to experience so many great adventures, to meet so many different people and to cover so many moments of history in the making.’

Koch said he looked forward to having more time to travel, and focus on his family and business interests, including Pinstripe Media and the Ausbiz business channel.
His 21-year stint as host makes him the longest running morning anchor in Australian TV history.
Aussie athletics great Matt Shirvington is set to replace Kochie in the top job.
It’s understood Koch himself has given Shirvington his ‘blessing’.
‘David believes Matt is a great fit and thinks he will do a fantastic job,’ an insider told Daily Mail Australia.
‘He’s been filling in for David for a few years now and has earned his stripes. Viewers like him and he is very well-regarded internally so it’s a natural step up for him.’
