Facebook and Instagram went down across the UK on Friday night with thousands of users logging issues accessing the social media sites.
According to DownDetector, both Facebook and Instagram saw a huge spike in reported problems, with tens of thousands of reports between them.
There were also reports with Whatsapp as it, too, was affected by the outage.
Some users reported on Twitter that they only received system error messages when they tried to access their accounts, or navigate around the sites.
Meta owns Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp – but not Twitter, which has just been taken over by Elon Musk
Others said the sites simply did not load, instead just timing out. Most turned to Twitter to complain about the issues as it is not owned by Meta and seems unaffected.
