Maloney: Mamdani Voters Show What's Wrong With Our Public Schools

Zohran Mamdani’s recent electoral victory can largely be attributed to his compelling narrative around tackling New York’s affordability crisis. He captivated voters with promises of free public transit and rent freezes, suggesting these measures would be financed by imposing higher taxes on the wealthy.

However, skepticism surrounds Mamdani’s ability to fulfill these ambitious pledges. The idea of free bus services, while appealing, raises concerns about safety and security, potentially turning buses into unsafe spaces rather than efficient means of transport. Similarly, the concept of freezing rents, though seemingly beneficial, could inadvertently harm the housing market. Without the ability to adjust rents, landlords might struggle to maintain properties, leading to deteriorating living conditions and undermining the goal of affordable housing.

Despite these potential challenges, Mamdani’s campaign resonated with many by promising a better future through increased taxation on the rich. Yet, in a twist of irony, just one day after his electoral win, Mamdani found himself reaching out to the very “working people” he vowed to support, requesting financial contributions for his transition team. This appeal came despite his earlier advice to supporters to hold off on donations.

Mamdani explained that the transition requires significant resources, including staffing, research, and infrastructure investments. As he outlined the necessity for funds, his request painted a picture of a burgeoning team in need of financial support, once again highlighting the complexities of turning campaign promises into reality.

He said he’d told people to stop donating a few months ago. But now, he was asking the “working people” to donate again, because, surprise, his transition team would cost money. He said that “it would require staff, it will require research, it will require infrastructure.

“Those are things we will have to provide. I’m excited for the fact that it will be funded by the very people who brought us to this point, the working people who have been left behind by the politics of this city.”

Here’s a more expanded version, with extra car salesman smiles. He’s going to have a bunch of people, and he needs money.

Pay up, guys! You thought you were going to get something for free? Well, nothing’s free, and they want money from you, if you’re foolish enough to contribute. But hey, you wouldn’t be left behind, they’ll have their hands out to you…for your money. They need your money to do research…on how to give you free stuff?

What about the NGOs that supported Mamdani’s run? Why isn’t he asking them, or the Soros family, rather than asking the “working people” for the money?

As we reported, it was more the college-educated voters who went for Mamdani. The non-college-educated knew better.
