Shocking footage has captured one man’s daring attempt to catch a train that nearly saw him be mowed down.

The commuter was seen sprinting across a platform at Alderley station, in Brisbane‘s north in August, after realising his train was on the other side of the tracks.

CCTV shows the man trying to keep up with the train before he then runs onto the tracks and makes a last minute dash in front of it as it came to a stop.

Miraculously unscathed, the man is then seen calmly boarding the train.

It comes as Queensland Rail revealed it had seen countless dangerous railway incidents filmed on thousands of security cameras at stations across the state.

The rail authority released some of the nail-biting clips in attempts to keep travellers off the tracks.

Drew Brock, Queensland Rail’s senior manager of security and emergency preparedness, said trains can travel at up to 160 kilometres per hour – and need up to two kilometres to reach a full stop.

‘By illegally accessing prohibited areas of the rail network, trespassers are risking electrocution from the high voltage overhead lines or being struck by a train,’ Mr Brock told Nine News.

‘If you don’t get killed, you will get caught. We have around 12,000 CCTV cameras across the network, a dedicated team of police railway squad officers, authorised officers and private security guards.’

The rail authority have reported some 3,000 cases of rail trespassing in the last financial year alone.

Nearly 200 of the cases were near-misses – where a commuter could have easily been seriously harmed or killed.
