The mother of murderer Jordan McSweeney’s ex-girlfriend said she feared her daughter would ‘end up in a morgue’ and expressed her relief that the ‘evil lunatic’ will now be behind bars.

Nicola West said her daughter Samantha Bryan, 30, is still haunted by her abusive four-and-a-half year relationship with McSweeny, who this week admitted murdering aspiring lawyer Zara Aleena as she walked home through Illford, east London in June.

On Friday Ms Bryan told MailOnline that McSweeney once stamped on her so badly it left an imprint of his trainer on her face – just as he did to Ms Aleena, who suffered fatal head injuries.

And now her mother has told the Mirror that she wasn’t able to sleep while her daughter was dating the ‘wannabe gangster’ as she was perpetually afraid that she would get a knock at the door telling her that Ms Bryan was ‘in a morgue’.

Ms West told the newspaper: ‘I used to be so scared this would happen to my daughter.

‘One time he was beating her up and she called us. When we got there he was running up and down the stairs screaming and hitting her. He chased my son around a car with a knife. He was an evil lunatic even aged 16.

‘Jordan’s brain wasn’t wired right. I’m so relieved he’ll be off the streets.’

Ms Bryan previously told MailOnline how violent McSweeney, 29, left a mark across her right eye socket and cheek after a savage beating.

Describing going to the police she said: ‘I gave them a statement, telling them just what he’d done, but I dropped the charges. I just couldn’t go through with it. At the time, my thinking was that I’d at last got rid of him from my life after four horrible years and I was still scared he – or one of his acolytes – would seek some sort of vengeance.

‘Knowing what he did to the poor woman in Ilford, I wish I had gone ahead with it. Jordan is nothing more than a wannabe gangster with no respect whatsoever for women. I hope he’s locked up for the rest of his life – no woman is safe around him.’

McSweeney would also punch, kick and bite her and once threw her out into the street after snatching her phone, forcing her to borrow a mobile from a homeless man so she could call her mother to collect her.

And Ms Bryan, who became pregnant by McSweeney, also told how he would cynically cuddle up to her at night – only in order to hide her wounds from his aunt when the young couple stayed with her.

Ms Aleena, 35, died from traumatic injuries after she was punched in the back of the head and stamped on before McSweeney tried to rape her.

The sickening details of her gruesome death sent a shiver down Ms Bryan’s spine as she revealed: ‘I know just was a nasty, horrible monster he really is.

‘My heart goes out to her, my only hope now is that nobody else has to suffer at his hands and he’s put away for the rest of his life.’

Another of McSweeney’s former partners, Stela Lowe, also claims to have suffered horrific abuse. Terrifyingly, she believes she might have suffered the same tragic fate as Zara had she not refused to meet him little more than 24 hours before he savagely beat his victim to death.

McSweeney, who has a string of 28 convictions for 69 separate offences including burglary and assault, was only released on licence from prison on June 17th.

On June 24th, he called Miss Lowe from the pub to say that he was out – and suggested she come and join him.

Miss Lowe refused, hung up the phone and pushed McSweeney from her mind, only to see him named on television as the man charged with murdering Miss Aleena on June 26.

Two days before the murder, McSweeney’s licence was revoked for failing to keep appointments with probation services. But the recall request was still being processed and police had yet to be informed he was to be arrested.

Earlier on the night of the murder, he had been caught on CCTV following other women through the streets before he became ‘fixated’ on Zara – a popular student who was a carer for her mother and grandmother.

He ambushed Ms Aleena and punched her in the back of the head before dragging the 35-year-old into a driveway and kicking her as she lay on the ground.

As the law graduate lay dying, the brute sexually assaulted her then grabbed her handbag, mobile phone and keys. He then walked away but returned moments later to deliver the fatal final blows.

Ms Aleena, who was left partially naked and struggling to breathe, was found at 2.44am. She was taken to hospital but died later that morning.

Police used CCTV to track McSweeney to his caravan in Dagenham, east London and on Friday he pleaded guilty to her murder.

The Ministry of Justice has launched an internal review into how McSweeney was able to commit a serious further offence while on licence. He will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on December 14.
