“Singapore is Ons”, Introvert Naomi Osaka reveals how Ons Jabeur ‘cracked the code’ on her shyness with a heartwarming exchange in her recent biography

Naomi Osaka’s biography by Ben Rothenberg titled ‘Naomi Osaka: Her Journey to Finding Her Power and Her Voice’ is getting published this week as the Australian Open commenced on Sunday.

Interestingly enough, Ben chose to retell a story from his new book, “Rising Star,” in remembrance of Osaka’s match against Caroline Garcia in the first round in his blog.

This specific incident dates back to the now-defunct competition, which included Naomi Osaka, Caroline Garcia, Ons Jabeur, and Zhu Lin in its last edition held in Singapore eight years ago.

The tournament remains memorable for Osaka, as she won her first professional singles title there, even though it was an unofficial event.

The excerpt describes how Osaka was an introverted, quiet kid with her dad. And how effortlessly Ons Jabeur tried her hand at cracking the father-daughter duo open with her persistent talking and extroverted nature.

To be honest, I just remember Ons—she was just talking to me nonstop,” Naomi said. “I’m really grateful for her because, like, the amount of shyness that I am right now, back then it was way worse. For me, Singapore is Ons.

Tennis mom Osaka started the year strong with some practice at the Brisbane International, whereas Garcia had a more successful ASB classic, reaching the quarterfinals in singles and losing in the finals in the doubles category.

The 26-year-old has recently opened up about how she can win one of the Slams this year after delivering Shai, her daughter, last July. With that being said, it seems like the tennis pro returns to the court highly motivated and ready to show up for the big-ticket event.

Garcia, on the other hand, despite not having the best of records at the Australian Open, can prove to be a tough competitor. The result of this much-awaited clash is yet to be seen, but one thing is certain: it is going to be a thrilling treat for tennis fans.
