Pulitzer Prize-Winning Novel About a French Vietnamese Spy to Be Adapted into TV Series

A24 and Rhombus Media are developing a TV series adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer-winning novel “The Sympathizer” with Park Chan-wook set to direct.

Nguyen, 50, announced the deal in a Twitter post on Tuesday, according to Deadline.

“The Sympathizer” is about an unnamed French-Vietnamese man who worked as a spy for Communist soldiers during the Vietnam War. It follows his journey through the final days of the historical conflict and his immigration to the U.S.

Nguyen, who is the Aerol Arnold Chair of English and Professor of English and American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of California, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2016. He also received the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature for his work in the novel.

It is believed that “The Sympathizer” was the first book to win the Edgar Award and the Pulitzer Prize in the same year, The Vulture reported.
