Nearby suburb Fraser Rise and Mickleham, in the state’s north both saw a jump of 3,400 residents.

Further towards the city, and Clayton North along with Notting Hill were among the highest growth rates, up 19 per cent.

Marsden Park – Shanes Park and Box Hill – Nelson, both about 49km from Sydney welcomed 3,900 people each.

Although every capital city experienced net overseas migration gain, the largest was recorded in Sydney followed by Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.

Brisbane and Perth were the only capitals to have net internal migration gains.
