The top 10 fastest growing emojis of the year on Tinder dating profiles have been named – and they’re not what many expected.

The list was released as part of the ‘Year in Swipe’ report, with the number one trending emoji being the parking symbol icon closely followed by the bandaged heart, red flag and kangaroo symbols.

At first glance it’s difficult to know what a number of the emojis mean and why they’re being used to flirt, but when used in context it becomes clear.

The parking symbol has been repurposed by singles to represent ‘pushing positivity’ and was most used this year. Members turned to this emoji to let the world, and their matches, know ‘positivity’ and keeping it real is exactly what they’re looking for.

Closely followed in second position is the red bandaged heart, meaning heartbroken or ‘where is the love?’

Unsurprisingly the red flag emoji was used to signify a red flag.

In fourth place on the trending list is the kangaroo emoji, which was mostly used in bios to signify someone is ‘Australian made’.

The bandaged heart means broken or 'where is the love?' while the kangaroo means 'Australian made'. Unsurprisingly the red flag emoji was used to signify a red flag

According to Tinder Australia, singles have created new meanings for the most used emojis:

1. Parking symbol – ‘pushing positivity’

2. Bandaged heart – heartbroken or ‘where is the love?’

3. Red flag – red flag habits

4. Kangaroo – Australian made

5. Clouds/fog – gaslighting

6.  Trident – ‘king of crypto’

7. Ukrainian flag – peace for Ukraine

8. Shocked face – mouth dropped

9. Kneeling man – ‘simping’ over someone, which refers to when someone obsesses over someone else who does not show their affection in return

10. Rat – ‘gym rat ‘or someone who exercises a lot at the gym

Oddly enough singles have also been using the cloud or fog emoji, but not for the reason you may think. The emoji has been used to represent gaslighting. arlier this year with conflict between Russia and Ukraine began more people started to use the Ukrainian flag emoji to symbolise peace for the country

Oddly enough singles have also been using the cloud or fog emoji, but not for the reason you may think.

The emoji has been used to represent gaslighting – a form of ’emotional abuse’ or control whereby the perpetrator ‘inflicts psychological manipulation that makes the recipient question their feelings, instincts, and even their sanity’.

Most people know the trident is the weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the sea. But on Tinder singles were using the trident emoji to brand themselves as ‘king of crypto’.

Earlier this year with conflict between Russia and Ukraine began more people started to use the Ukrainian flag emoji to symbolise peace for the country.

The remaining emojis were the shocked face, a man kneeling and a rat.

The kneeling man represents when you’re ‘simping’ over someone, which refers to when someone obsesses over someone else who does not show their affection in return.

And lastly the rat signifies being a ‘gym rat’ or someone who exercises a lot at the gym.

The remaining emojis were the shocked face, a man kneeling and a rat. The kneeling man represents when you're 'simping' over someone, while the rat signifies being a 'gym rat'
