Each Veterans Day, the nation pauses to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This day is dedicated to reflecting on their sacrifices and expressing gratitude for their service in defending the liberties we cherish. On Tuesday, President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance paid their respects at Arlington National Cemetery. In a solemn ceremony, President Trump laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, while attendees observed a moment of silence to honor the fallen.

Standing amidst the historic and solemn beauty of Arlington, President Trump delivered a speech honoring veterans. His words resonated with the crowd, reflecting his administration’s commitment to those who have served.

President Trump emphasized his administration’s efforts to enhance services for veterans, highlighting significant achievements in reducing bureaucratic hurdles. The Department of Veterans Affairs has dedicated over a million hours of service, inaugurated 20 new facilities across 13 states, and addressed a backlog of three million claims. Notably, the administration reinstated the “VA Choice” program, empowering veterans to seek medical care from private providers if VA services are delayed—a significant improvement for veteran healthcare access.

Wow, what strong recognition of the importance of our veterans from the Commander in Chief. President Trump also took a moment to highlight how his administration has helped streamline veteran services by removing burdensome bureaucracy. The VA team has put in one million service hours. Opened 20 new facilities across 13 states. Processed a record three million backlogged claims. And possibly most importantly, the administration brought back “VA Choice,” which allows veterans to get outside care from a doctor of their choice if the backlog takes too long for them to get care—a huge win for veterans.

President Trump also discussed the ideals and selfless commitment that come with being a veteran.

President Trump: With selfless commitment and unyielding conviction, they made themselves America’s ramparts, and became the shield between our homeland and those who would do us harm. With everything they had, they did one thing above all else—they put America First.

I hope every veteran is able to read or listen to this speech. As they are and have been “the shield between our homeland and those who would do us harm.” We honor them today.

While his speech won’t get as much attention, Vice President Vance nearly stole the show early on as he discussed how well he knows the president.

V.P. Vance: I’ve learned a couple things from working so closely with the president of the United States. The first thing, he loves our nations veterans and has committed our nation’s administration to putting our veterans first every single day. And the second thing I’ve learned about the president of the United States, is that he really hates when somebody who’s speaking before him goes on for too long. And so with that in mind, I have prepared a very brief and very inspiring 1 hour and 45 minute speech on this beautiful Veterans Day.

It’s not often you can catch this president off guard, but JD got a good laugh from the president here. Let me add my small voice of gratitude today towards our veterans. We are so grateful for your service and sacrifice. Millions of Americans across this country share this sentiment—you have not been forgotten. You all are the legacy that keeps America moving forward while remembering our past. I join the president: thank you for your service.
