THE CEO of American Airlines has blamed a military helicopter for the devastating midair collision in Washington DC which is feared to have killed 64 passengers.
Officials have no clear answer as to why an American Airlines passenger jet and a Black Hawk military helicopter crashed in a fatal incident on Wednesday night in Washington DC.
“At this time, we don’t know why the military aircraft came into the path of the PSA aircraft,” American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said on Thursday morning.
It comes as the reported flight path of the military jet has sparked online speculation as it appears to fly extremely close to the American Airlines jet, according to flight tracker video from FlightRadar24.
The plane carried dozens of passengers who are all now believed to be dead.
President Donald Trump also suggested the military helicopter might be at fault in a post on Truth Social.
“The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time.
“It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn,” he said, adding that it “looks like it should have been prevented.”
