Arsenal target Danilo reveals he is ‘ready’ to depart Palmeiras for the Premier League as he opens up on friendship with Gunners forwards Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli

Palmeiras starlet Danilo has declared he is ‘ready’ for a switch to the Premier League ahead of a possible January move to Arsenal.

The 21-year-old midfielder is believed to be on the Gunners’ radar as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad in the New Year.

It has been claimed that the talented youngster is ‘close to signing’ for the north London outfit.

Arsenal are said to have stepped up their interest in the player, who recently helped his side win the Brazilian top-flight title.

Arteta is understood to be given funds to spend in the winter market, with Danilo a player the club are keen to bring in.

And Danilo, who chipped in with seven goals and four assists in 58 games in all competitions during the 2022 season, has broken his silence regarding his future.

Speaking to UOL Esporte, who named Arsenal as a possible destination, the defensive midfielder was asked about a transfer away from Palmeiras – specifically to the Premier League.

To which Danilo said: “I see myself mature enough to be able to play in any competition in the world, I’m ready.”

Before adding: “But I prefer not to get involved with these transfer issues.

“I told my manager to only talk to me if it’s the right thing.

“Then, we sit down and talk to Palmeiras and decide what’s best for everyone.”

Danilo, who was called up to the Brazil squad in May but failed to be included in Tite’s World Cup squad, would be one of a number of Samba stars on Arsenal’s books should he join.

Arsenal sporting director Edu has recruited a number of his compatriots since returning to the club in 2019, with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magaelhaes and Marquinhos all making waves in the first team.

And Danilo has opened up on his friendship with Jesus and Martinelli after training alongside the pair.

He remarked: “Being there with the best in the world, players I’m a fan of, only helped me.

“It was very good. I made friends and learned a lot. I got closer to Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Dani Alves.”
