Crystal Palace have made enquiries about Flamengo’s exciting attacking midfielder Matheus Franca.

Sources in Brazil say Palace have shown a willingness to offer £15million plus a sell-on percentage for the 18-year old who broke into Flamengo’s first team last year.

Indeed, the teenager is rated so highly that the club tied him to a five year contract last January which includes an £87m (100m Euro) release clause, the biggest in the club’s history.

Although that valuation in the current financial climate can be viewed as optimistic, it reflects the task the likes of Palace may face to prise Franca away from Brazil.

He has scored eight goals and made three assists in 24 first team appearances under manager Paulo Sousa and has been attracting attention from Manchester City, United, Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

Madrid have plundered Flamengo previously to sign Vinicius Junior, offering £38m just weeks after he made his first team debut as a 16-year old.

Palace, who face losing Wilfried Zaha next year, are continuing their recruitment policy of sourcing up and coming talent for Patrick Vieira’s first team squad.

While competition is fierce they have shown a willingness to blood young players in their first team providing a quicker pathway than Premier League rivals.
