Gary Neville has singled out Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen as two players that should have performed better in the draw against Chelsea.

The Red Devils scrapped a draw by the skin of their teeth thanks to a late header from Casemiro that levelled the scores after Jorginho had put the Blues ahead from the spot in the 87th minute.

Eriksen was recalled to the starting line-up by manager Erik ten Hag after he had been dropped to the bench for the 2-0 win against Tottenham in the mid-week fixture.

The Danish playmaker and Fernandes saw plenty of the ball as the Red Devils dominated the majority of possession, but neither of which were able to create meaningful chances for their side to score from.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville felt that Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen should have done better against Chelsea.

Neville believes that the duo should have done better with the quality they have and insists that they wouldn’t get an easier game away at Chelsea to do so.

The former Reds right-back said on the Gary Neville Podcast: ‘For 30-35 minutes, it became pretty obvious after five minutes that Manchester United’s midfield was absolutely dominating Chelsea’s.

‘That two that Chelsea had were really struggling, Jorginho and Loftus-Cheek, and that was sort of the real fundamental part of the game.

‘But when you’ve got a game by the scruff of the neck in possession like United did – they needed then to go and get the goal, but they didn’t do that.

‘Casemiro was getting on the ball, Eriksen and Fernandes were in pockets, and I thought Eriksen and Fernandes with more quality at the top of their games should have done better in that period of the game.

‘They’ll never get a simpler game at Stamford Bridge than they did in that first part – Chelsea couldn’t get near them.’

The pair will have another chance to make a difference for Manchester United on Thursday as they will be in action against Moldovan side Sheriff in the Europa League.
