Xabi Alonso is confident that Callum Hudson-Odoi will remain at Bayer Leverkusen beyond January with Chelsea to decide against recalling him.
The 22-year-old winger departed the Blues in the summer to link up with the Bundesliga outfit on a season-long loan deal.
Since arriving at the BayArena, the three-cap England international has appeared in 15 games in all competitions – chipping in with a solitary goal and an assist.
He has featured in all but two German top-flight matches, with Leverkusen languishing 12th in the table.
His deal at the club contains a recall clause, which the west London outfit can activate in the New Year.
But Liverpool icon Alonso, who took charge of Bayer last month, is desperate to keep the forward.
Speaking a press conference after his side’s friendly against future MLS club St. Louis City SC, Alonso commented on the future of Hudson-Odoi.
Quoted by Manuel Veth, he said: “I want to keep him a lot.
“I am sure that he will stay until the end of the season.
“He is an important player for us.”

Hudson-Odoi scored in the 3-0 win against the American side, who will be competing in the MLS from 2023.
Speaking earlier this month, Alonso publicly demanded more of the youngster with Bayer struggling for form.
Having deployed Hudson-Odoi as a left winger and No10, Alonso told Kicker: “We know how Callum can play this position between the lines very well.
“He has a good first contact and can attack the last line, be aggressive.
“But what happens after that is the most important thing.
“We have to work on that.”
