Mohamed Salah has called for departing Liverpool players to be shown respect as the club talisman took aim at a post shared by a major fan account.

Liverpool fan platform Anfield Edition, which has over 500,000 followers on X, lauded the club’s summer transfer business in a post on Tuesday,

The account focused on the big-money signings of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, who joined for £125million and £116m respectively.

Diaz left Liverpool in a £65.5m move to Bayern Munich, while Nunez’s underwhelming spell at the club came to an end when he joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for £53m.

Salah came to the defence of his former team-mates, with the Liverpool star highlighting their contribution to Liverpool’s title success last season.

‘How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?’ Salah wrote.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez made important contributions to Liverpool’s title win last season

Salah’s comment received the backing of several Liverpool fans, who noted Diaz and Nunez’s contributions to their title winning campaign last season.

‘Even as they left us, they will always be remembered of there influence in the team. Champions always,’ one wrote.

‘Spot on, Mo,’ another added, with a third posting ‘As it should be, brother. Let’s stop the comparison’.

Another fan commented ‘The King has spoken, stop the disrespect’.

Anfield Edition later responded to Salah, writing ‘Whilst we acknowledge Mo Salah, it wasn’t the intention to disrespect, more to highlight the incredible transfers this summer. But we’re sorry, Mo Salah.’

The account added ‘In our opinion, more right than wrong’, a reference to Salah’s claim he was ‘more out than in’ during contract talks with Liverpool last year before signing a new deal.

Diaz had enjoyed a productive spell at Liverpool after joining the club in January 2022, with the Colombian going on to score Diaz 41 goals in 148 appearances.

The winger had 20 goal involvements in the Premier League last season – 13 goals and seven assists – as Arne Slot’s side were crowned champions.

Diaz also won the League Cup on two occasions and was part of the Liverpool side to reach the Champions League final in 2022, where they were beaten by Real Madrid.

Despite being unable to live up to his £85m transfer fee, Liverpool’s club record deal in 2022, Nunez had remained a regular member of Slot’s squad.

Salah previously spoke of his enjoyment of playing with Nunez, despite criticism of the forward

The Liverpool talisman admits he is still seeking connections with new signing Hugo Ekitike

He made 30 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring five times and providing three assists.

Last year, Salah had revealed Nunez had become the forward he most enjoyed playing with at Liverpool.

‘Who do I most like to play with? It was [Roberto] Firmino. Now I feel like I generally like playing with Nunez,’ Salah told a fan Q&A.

‘A lot of people don’t like him but I like playing with him. I like playing with him in general. [Nunez is] a player with different skills. Not a lot of people understand his ball.’

Speaking on the Men in Blazers podcast this week, Salah has admitted he is still working out connections with his new team-mates, including £79m signing Hugo Ekitike.

‘So far I didn’t figure the connections out yet. Like with Darwin or Lucho or the guys they used to play in front, or Diogo. I knew where to start with Diogo or Darwin. I know where to find them. I knew their game very well but with Hugo he’s still new,’ Salah said.

‘Sometimes I need the ball in the field. Sometimes we need it in the space. We try to figure that out, through the training sessions or like the videos. The manager shows us.

‘I will figure it out soon because also it’s going to help my game to grow as well.’

Liverpool fans had previously turned on Trent Alexander-Arnold over the nature of his departure from the club this summer, with the boyhood fan opting against signing a new contract to join Real Madrid.

Isak was Liverpool’s final purchase of the window, completing a protracted £125m move from Newcastle

The Reds would ultimately earn a £10million fee despite Alexander-Arnold’s expiring contract, with Real Madrid deciding to push for his signing prior to the Club World Cup.

Liverpool splashed out a whopping £446m during the transfer window, with Isak and Wirtz alone costing the club around £240m.

Other arrivals include Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni and Giorgi Mamardashvili as the club looked to strengthen on their title win last season.

The Reds have made the perfect start to the new season with Slot’s side having won all three matches, the only Premier League side to do so.
