Mohamed Salah's agent shuts down reports Liverpool star is ‘open to transfer’ this summer

Mohamed Salah’s agent has seemingly rubbished reports that the Liverpool star is open to a departure away from Anfield this summer.

It had been claimed the Egyptian star feels the time is right to leave the Reds after a glittering six years, with Spain his preferred destination for his next club.

Salah has become a bona fide Anfield legend during his time with the Merseyside club.

As well as winning every major club honour available to him, firing Liverpool to glory in the Premier League and Champions League, he has broken records with his stunning goal rate.

Salah has 178 goals and 74 assists [252 direct goal involvements] in 293 games as a Red.

Earlier this season he became Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premier League with 129 goals, eclipsing Robbie Fowler’s tally of 128, and he is also now above Anfield icon Kenny Dalglish in the club’s all-time goalscoring list.

A report from French outlet FootMercato, though, claims Salah feels it’s time to move on, with the 30-year-old ‘increasingly considering’ leaving in the summer as he ‘feels Liverpool are at the end of their cycle’.

However, Salah’s outspoken agent Ramy Abbas has shut down the rumours.

Although, there is little argument about that latter statement when you consider where Liverpool are this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were practically two results away from winning a historic quadruple last term, and still collected the FA Cup and EFL Cup, but will end this campaign with nothing.

Their crushing Champions League last-16 exit to Real Madrid, losing 6-2 on aggregate to the team that beat them in last season’s final, showed how far the Reds have drifted from the top level, with their position in the Premier League also displaying their quite startling slide.

Klopp’s side are now pinning their hopes on finishing in the Premier League’s top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League, but they currently sit in sixth place and six points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham.

As a whole the team has dramatically underperformed, and while Salah’s levels have dropped too, he has still managed 22 goals and 11 assists in 39 matches in all competitions.

Klopp now faces a major rebuild of his previously all-conquering team, and it could signal the true end of an era if Salah is the latest big star to go.

Liverpool sold Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich last summer and Roberto Firmino will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

It means next season Salah, who recently signed a new contract until 2025, will be the last one standing from that famous attacking triumvirate – perhaps the best the Premier League has ever seen.

The report claimed he is now beginning to consider his future at Anfield and is ‘thinking more and more’ about a possible exit after seeing his other teammates leave.

It’s also claimed that, like Mane at Bayern, Salah sees himself enjoying a new challenge by joining another elite European club, with Spain his preferred destination.

But Abbas appears to have said this is not true, as he responded to the report on Twitter.

Replying directly to the French journalist who wrote the story, the agent said: “Where did you get this from if not even Mohamed and I discussed this? Please tell us.”
