'Never a possibility' - Roma director Tiago Pinto rules out Cristiano Ronaldo reunion with Jose Mourinho at Stadio Olimpico as he categorically denies move for wantaway Manchester United striker

Wantaway Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been dealt another transfer blow after Roma ruled themselves out of the running.

The 37-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford following his bombshell interview to TalkTV where he slammed the state of the club.

As well as ripping into the Glazer family, Ronaldo revealed he doesn’t respect boss Erik ten Hag while hitting out on the Red Devils youngsters.

It’s believed United are keen on terminating the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract as a result of his comments.

Ronaldo is only tied down at the Theatre of Dreams until next summer, with all signs pointing towards a swift United exit.

But not many clubs appear to be willing to take a gamble on the Portugal international, with Roma the latest club to rule out a transfer.

Speaking at the Thinking Football Summit in Portugal, Roma director Tiago Pinto categorically ruled out a reunion between Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico after stating the club have ‘never’ been interested in him.

He said: “One of the things that irritates me about Italy is that they are constantly talking about the transfer market.

“The truth is that Cristiano Ronaldo was never a possibility. These rumours had no foundation.

“But in Italy they talk every day about three different players linked with your club.

“I understand it was natural to link us because Mourinho and I are both Portuguese, and so is Cristiano.

“But as I said, there was never any substance in it.”

A number of clubs have already distanced themselves from Ronaldo, with Chelsea boss Graham Potter not keen on securing his services.

That is despite the Blues suffering from a lack of goals up top with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling since joining from Barcelona.

Meanwhile Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn insisted in July how Ronaldo doesn’t fit the club’s philosophy.

Their Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund also declared how Ronaldo won’t be ending up at Signal Iduna Park.

And Napoli club director Cristiano Giuntol last month stated how the Serie A outfit don’t need Ronaldo as they sit pretty at the top of the table.
