Real Madrid are reportedly hoping to take advantage of Liverpool and Manchester City’s misfortune in their bid to sign Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland this summer.

Madrid will be hoping the domestic chaos for various reasons surrounding their Premier League rivals will give them major leverage as part of their plans in the transfer window ahead of next season.

In particular, the Spanish giants are hoping Liverpool’s terrible domestic form will continue to see them miss out on a Champions League place according to Mundo Deportivo.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a 3-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, which leaves them 10th in the Premier League table and 11 points off Newcastle United who hold the final Champions League spot in fourth place albeit having played a game extra.

It leaves the Reds in danger of not qualifying for Europe’s premier club competition next term, and Madrid are hopeful that this will give them leverage in the chase to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool are thought to be leading the hunt to sign the England international this summer but a drop in prestige and finances as a result of failing to reach the Champions League is what Madrid are hoping for to help steal a march on the Reds for the 19-year-old.

Bellingham is also a target for Manchester City, but Madrid are also hoping the multiple financial charges the Premier League have hit the club could work in their favour too.

Madrid missed out on signing Haaland from Borussia Dortmund after the Norwegian, who is the Premier League’s top scorer with 25 goals this term, joined City last summer in a £51million deal.

Depending on the punishments the Premier League hit City with, which could include a points deduction or expulsion, Madrid hope to potentially capitalise on any development.

Madrid can pile even more misery on Liverpool, and block another route for Klopp’s side to qualify for the Champions League.

The teams meet on February 21 at Anfield in the first leg of their last-16 clash of the competition, which if Liverpool win the final of in June will see them qualify for next season even if they finish outside of the top four in the Premier League.

Man City meanwhile are looking to fight the Premier League charges aimed at them by hiring a defence team ked by a renowned barrister.

They have instructed Lord Pannick KC, who was integral in overturning UEFA’s two-year ban on participating in European competition at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2020.

Pannick is reported to charge around £5,000 an hour for his services, which puts him in line with the top earners in the Premier League. There is a confidence around the defending champions that they will successfully defend the claims in front of an independent commission.
