Tammy Abraham has refused to rule out a return to Chelsea, two years after leaving the club he joined as a child.

Abraham, 25, came through the youth system at the Blues, but struggled to get first team appearances, playing just 58 times for the first team between 2016 and 2021.

When he considered other playing opportunities, Jose Mourinho personally called him and organised a £34m move to Serie A side Roma, where he currently plays.

While Abraham has played 64 matches for Roma in less than two years with the club, he is open minded about where his future may take him – even if it takes him back to where it all started.

When asked if a return to Chelsea was ever possible, Abraham told Four Four Two: ‘Never say never in football. Right now, my focus is on Roma — I’ve no other plans. Maybe I’ll stay at Roma for the next ten years, maybe not. You never know.’

Abraham has an €80m (£68m) buyback clause in his contract, valid from the end of the current campaign, which raises the possibility of a return to the Blues.

Elsewhere in the interview, Abraham said that he was seriously contemplating a move to Arsenal when he left Chelsea, because his relatives are big fans of the Gunners – and he idolised a certain club legend when he was growing up.

Abraham said: ‘My family were massive Arsenal fans, so I grew up watching them – I’d be lying to say Thierry Henry wasn’t my biggest idol.

‘I loved Thierry, and I wanted to be a footballer because of him. Even the way he wore his socks, today I still wear them the same. The way he used to wear his wrist tape – if you notice, I wear wrist tape as well! He’s a player I looked up to and loved.’

A recent report has suggested that Arsenal are keeping tabs on five different strikers to bring into the fold for next season, including Abraham, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Mourinho is expecting Abraham to leave the club in the summer, amid Premier League interest, and he is demanding that Roma bring in three new players, including a replacement for the 25-year-old.

While Abraham’s goalscoring has been less prolific in his second season with Roma, the side currently sit in fifth place in Serie A, ahead of Sunday’s home league match against Sampdoria.
