Mehdi Taremi is an Iranian professional footballer who currently plays for Porto in the Primeira Liga as well as the Iran national team. Taremi began his professional career at the Bargh Bushehr Academy before transferring to the Iranjavan Youth Academy. Taremi began working for Shahin Bushehr in the summer of 2010. He played in seven games and scored one goal across all competitions. In the winter of 2012, Shahin let him go. Bushehr was supposed to serve in a military club during his conscription period but failed to do so and was forced to serve in a regular garrison.

Taremi joined Iranjavan in the summer of 2013 and was given the number 9 for the 2014-15 season. In the summer of 2014, he signed a two-year contract extension with Persepolis FC. Taremi announced before the start of the new season that he would not extend his contract in order to join a European team. Taremi was linked to Turkish Super Lig team aykur Rizespor in July 2016.
Taremi returned to Iran and signed a two-year contract with Persepolis, so the move was canceled. Taremi was linked with Dinamo Zagreb following his strong performances. Taremi signed a four-year contract with Portuguese club FC Porto in August 2020. On November 8, 2020, he scored his first league goal for Porto in a 3-1 home win over Portimonense. Taremi won his first Primeira Liga title with FC Porto in the 2021-22 season. During that season, he had 20 goals and 12 assists.
