World No 1 Iga Swiatek vows not to underestimate Czech outsider Karolina Muchova in French Open final after losing their only previous encounter four years ago

Iga Swiatek has pledged not to underestimate Czech outsider Karolina Muchova in Saturday’s French Open final.

The world No 43 has been the tournament’s surprise package but Swiatek knows her well, having lost their only previous meeting in 2019. 

The Polish world No 1 said: ‘She is a player who can do anything. She has great touch and can speed up the game. She plays with freedom in her movement and a great technique.’

Having taken out world No 2 Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday, Muchova will need another career-best display to stop Swiatek taking her third Roland Garros crown in four years.
