“Ashes is another level bruh”- Netizens react strongly after picture of Ben Stokes wearing nappies with tag of “CRYBABIES” by Australian print media goes viral

With the Ashes, the fight between UK and Australian media also started and fans seem to enjoying it all. The second Ashes Test at the Lord’s ended controversially, for Jonny Bairstow was deemed out following a bizarre but legal run out.

Bairstow might have forgotten that the ball was not deemed ‘dead’ when he wandered out of the crease after ducking a bouncer off Cameron Green. Keeper Alex Carey was keeping an eye over Bairstow’s movement in the previous overs, and taking the advantage, he threw the ball at stumps to send the batter into packing.

Bairstow and Stokes were on the cusp of stitching a stand that was shattered by Carey only to invite the famous ‘Spirit of Cricket’ discussion amongst the cricketers, ex-cricketers, and the fans. The rivalry is not confined to the two teams or fans but media also and it’s worth noting the name of this series ‘Ashes’ was also a result of a satirical obituary published by The Sporting Times, a British newspaper, back in 1882. Post England’s defeat, The Sporting Times wrote: “The body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia“.

While England’s print media came up with hilarious headlines following the loss, Australia’s newspaper The West Australian page showed a baby Ben Stokes in nappies lying on the grass on his stomach with the tag of “CRYBABIES”. Another headline from an Australian print media read: “Poms take whingeing to a new level with ‘cheating’ drivel“. The images of the newspapers went viral on social media.

Before seeing fans’ reactions, here’s how Ben Stokes himself came up with a hilarious reaction: “That’s definitely not me, since when did I bowl with the new ball“.

Check fans’ reactions now:

Stokes was straightforward when he was asked about Bairstow’s dismissal. Though he accepted that it was well within the laws, he would have refrained from winning the game in that manner citing the “spirit of the game“. Aussie skipper Pat Cummins on the other hand, reminded all that Bairstow does it all the time by citing how he tried to dismiss David Warner and Steve Smith in the same fashion.

Australia were on the verge of a win when Ben Stokes turned into a monster post that dismissal and almost secured the win like the way he did in Headlingly in 2019. His dismissal saw the hosts losing the left wickets quickly and the Aussies managed the win by 43 runs to take a lead 2-0 in the four-match series.
