Documentaries are not only on the rise recently, but interest in them seems to be higher than ever. With documentaries, both in movie and series form, hitting the small screen, we’ve got our eyes peeled for another one that’s dropping in July 2022.

Explorer is set to dig deep into the life of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, a man credited with the amazing title of World’s Greatest Living Explorer.

As well as his long list of accomplishments, Sir Fiennes was the first to circumnavigate the globe from pole to pole; he also crossed the Antarctic on foot, broke various world records, and even discovered a lost city in Arabia.

Sir Fiennes has been to the most dangerous and trying places on the planet, and has even lost 50% of his fingers to frostbite, whilst raising millions for charity, and actually wasalmost cast as famous spy 007, aka James Bond.

Explorer seeks to ask, however, who is the man simply known as ‘Ran’?

The documentary will give viewers exclusive access to Ran, his incredible film archive, which has been preserved and cared for by the BFI (British Film Industry) National Archive, covering decades of expeditions and contributions from life-long friends and colleagues.

Explorer will tell the definitive tale of an awe-inspiring leader, and delve into Ran’s amazing life and dreams, as well as exploring the motivation behind the greatest moments of his life.

Speaking about the documentary, Director Matt Dyas says: “In Explorer, I wanted to create a compelling portrait of the real man behind the myth, and between the cracks of the ordinary and the extraordinary, I hope viewers see for themselves an intimate side to his personality and the motivations that drive him.”

Producer George Chignell adds: “It’s been a privilege to bring Ran’s story to the screen and celebrate one of Britain’s most extraordinary characters.”

Explorer will be in cinemas on July 14th, 2022.
