A&W Root Beer's Parody of Mars 'Spokescandies' Is Spectacular

The best type of advertising is humor. Millions of Americans will tune into the Super Bowl to watch football, but they also want to see the witty ads, the funny ads. What people don’t want is to be preached at. Mars Candy willingly sacrificed itself on the altar of Wokeness when it turned fictional candy “people” into temples for the cult of woke. Mars repurposed its “spokescandies” from fun-talking candies into characters from the alphabet soup tribe. Fat candy, trans candy, candy with high heels. Candy with anxiety. Gay candy (not there’s anything wrong with that).

Then came the blowback. My buddy Brandon Morse noted:

As previously covered by RedState, M&M’s marketing team decided to take the beloved characters and begin changing up how they act and behave. While Red and Yellow were left alone, Green was defeminized so that she wasn’t so obviously a woman, which was offensive to the hard left for some reason. Moreover, they began adding other colors for the various flavors coming out, but they were attached to social messaging in the “modern audiences” vein.”

The left went nuts. I mean, as in really mad about the “cancel culture” of the right. In reality, consumers didn’t cancel Mars “spokescandies” — Mars did when its sales melted in their hands.

A&W Root Beer (A&W Restaurants) stepped in to fill the humor void. It copied the look and feel of Mars’ capitulation and delivered a truly funny parody, mocking Mars Candy. I remember A&W restaurants from my youth but didn’t know they were still around. Here’s the (ad) tweet.

Unfortunately, someone at Fox News didn’t get the joke:

Well done, A&W. I salute you, your “spokesbear,” your Twitter team, and even the pants he’s now wearing. Well done. By the way – does anyone know why Mickey wears pants and no shirt, and Donald wears a shirt and no pants? I have a sense that leftists will eventually want answers from Disney for that age-old question and Disney will capitulate. It always does.

I haven’t had an A&W Root Beer in years. I’ll have to tip one today.
